Ensuring Excellence in Technical Education

Student Counselling

Objectives

The objective of the counseling cell is to encourage students to understand themselves and identify problems they face in their daily lives. This includes personal, family-related, educational, social, and psychological issues. The goal is to resolve these by giving proper guidance, which helps to build self-confidence in them.

The Context

  • Helping students with academic difficulties such as slowness in understanding, poor performance, and concentration issues.
  • Ensuring a confidential atmosphere in which the student can discuss any concerns they may have.
  • Assisting students to identify their inner strengths and weaknesses for holistic development.
  • Guiding brilliant students to take part in various inter-collegiate and inter-university competitions.
  • Counselling students with broken families to build positive relationships, attitudes, and behaviors.

The Practice

The student counseling cell is headed by Dr. Dhanasree M. B., who has more than five years of experience in psychological counseling and has been a Homoeopathic Physician for ten years. A counseling session is organized once a week.

Sessions include supporting emotional and professional growth, monitoring support programs, and providing educational/vocational guidance. The counselor handles 5 to 10 students individually per day. Larger groups (60-70 students) are motivated through student-friendly activities like role-play, music, puzzles, and quizzes to promote joy and interpersonal relationships. Health counseling is also an integral part of this program.

Evidence of Success

Students who underwent counseling sessions were found to be relaxed and gained insight into their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. They learned to communicate more effectively, leading to better relationships and decision-making. These positive changes are reflected in their academic performances as well.
